Yamal Hopes Barcelona and Spanish Football Federation Ease Tensions, and Wants to Play in Next March's CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions
Earlier, Yamal withdrew from the current Spanish national team due to injury, which triggered a dispute between the Spanish Football Federation and Barcelona. The Spanish Football Federation had expressed dissatisfaction with Barcelona, believing the club should have informed the federation of Yamal's injury in advance. Barcelona, however, complained that some of their players had recently been forced to be selected for the Spanish national team and play with injuries, which affected the players' health.
But Yamal himself does not want to see conflicts between the club and the federation. Reporters stated that Yamal has expressed to Barcelona his willingness to play in the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions match between Spain and Argentina next March, and hopes the relationship between the club and the Spanish Football Federation will have recovered by then.
A source close to Yamal revealed: “Yamal believes he is caught in a dispute that is not his fault. What upsets Yamal most is that this controversy stems from such a sad reason— injury. He has begun treatment for pubic inflammation and hopes to return to the field for the team as soon as possible.”
The source added: “He just wants to recover as soon as possible and reach the highest level this year. Spanish Football Federation President Rafael Rubiales personally called Alejandro Echevarría, assistant to Barcelona President Laporta, this week, hoping to ease the tense situation between the two sides. Rubiales also plans to meet with President Laporta to completely resolve the issue.
