Viktor Gyökeres Misses Arsenal's Training Today Due to Injury, to Sit Out Midweek Champions League

On Arsenal’s training ground Monday afternoon, Swedish forward Viktor Gyökeres was notably absent— the striker missed the team’s session preparing for this week’s Champions League fixture. In Saturday’s 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor, the 27-year-old was forced off at halftime, though he finally ended his Premier League goal drought with a 14th-minute opener that set the Gunners on their way to victory.
Post-match, Mikel Arteta revealed Gyökeres was struggling with an injury. “This was perhaps one of his best displays since joining— exceptional all-round: high pressing, touch, offside-beating runs, linking play, transitions. He was at his peak,” Arteta said. “It’s a shame he felt discomfort. We had to sub him due to a minor issue; it needs further checks. He has abnormal muscle sensations, pending the medical team’s assessment.”
In contrast, Martin Zubimendi— also substituted against Burnley— took part in full training. However, the midfielder is confirmed to miss tomorrow’s European clash due to an automatic one-match ban (three yellow cards in the group stage). The club had him train to maintain fitness, as he’ll return for this weekend’s league game against Sunderland, ahead of the North London Derby after the international break.
Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz, Anthony Gordon and Gabriel Jesus were also absent from training, remaining on the injury list. With the win at Turf Moor, Arsenal have extended their Premier League lead to six points.
