In the concluded CAF World Cup Qualifiers Playoffs, Nigeria lost to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on penalties and missed out on the USA, Canada & Mexico World Cup. After the game, Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle accused the opponent of using witchcraft.

Reporter: Why did you have a conflict with the opposing coach after the game?

Chelle: “Throughout the penalty shootout, someone from the DRC team was using voodoo. It happened with every penalty, so I felt a bit uncomfortable.”

Reporter pressed further: What did you see?

Chelle (waving his fist): “Like this, look—they were waving something. I don’t know if it was a water bottle or something else.”
