PSG Official: Mbappé Concealed Non-Renewal & Ignored Club Finances, Claims €440 Million in Damages

French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) issued a strongly worded statement on Monday local time, targeting Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé.
Following the labor arbitration tribunal hearing attended by both parties, the Parisian club—embroiled in a legal dispute potentially involving hundreds of millions of euros in losses—not only reaffirmed its stance of refusing to compromise with the former star but also accused him of harming the club’s interests.
After the full-day hearing by the Paris Labor Arbitration Committee, a new development emerged in the legal dispute between Mbappé and PSG: representatives from both sides engaged in heated exchanges in court. Unable to reach a settlement, the club and the French star await a judicial ruling on December 16. Mbappé is claiming €253 million in damages, while PSG has filed a counterclaim seeking €440 million in compensation. Immediately after the hearing, PSG officially released a statement targeting the 26-year-old forward.
Below is the content of the announcement issued by PSG through media outlets such as AFP:
“The club must reiterate that to safeguard the cooperative trust between the team and players, we have made every effort over more than a year to seek an amicable solution and move all parties forward. Multiple institutions involved in this dispute have advocated for reconciliation, and the club has always promoted the matter with sincerity. Despite our repeated efforts, Mr. Mbappé has continuously used every opportunity to attack the club, including the lawsuit filed today—which is a tragic situation for the player himself and French football.”
After denying any harassment of Mbappé between 2017 and 2024, PSG continued to defend the so-called "tacit agreement between the player and the club regarding unpaid bonuses." While Mbappé’s team insists on payment, the newly crowned Champions League winners firmly believe their position is legally valid.
"In the arbitration tribunal, the club submitted evidence proving the player’s malicious conduct—he concealed his decision not to renew the contract for nearly 11 months from July 2022 to June 2023, depriving the club of all possible transfer operations," PSG further stated in the statement on the litigation process. “The player subsequently denied the agreement reached with the club in August 2023, which clearly stipulated that his salary would be reduced if he decided to leave as a free agent to ensure the club’s financial stability after substantial investment.”
"The player also challenged the agreement reached with the club in August 2023. This agreement stipulated that if the player chose to leave via free transfer, the club would reduce his salary to protect the club’s financial stability following significant investment. This concealing behavior, coupled with the denial of this clear and well-documented agreement, has caused enormous losses to Paris Saint-Germain, and the club hopes the relevant authorities will confirm these losses."
“Such concealing behavior, along with the outright denial of a written agreement, has inflicted substantial damage on Paris Saint-Germain, and the club will pursue liability through legal channels.”
If the ruling favors Mbappé, PSG could face huge losses. Eager to end the legal dispute, the club now intends to focus on the 2025-2026 season but clearly stated it will never show weakness to the former player.
"Paris Saint-Germain will continue to firmly defend its rights. This is essentially about integrity, honor, adherence to values, and respect for the Parisian club and its fans," the current Ligue 1 leaders concluded. "At the same time, the club is building on the momentum of its most successful season in history, founded on solidarity, hard work, team spirit, and the principle that the club’s interests take precedence over any individual."
