According to Camel.live reporters, Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham hopes the 2035 Women’s World Cup final can be held at Manchester United’s new stadium.
The Manchester Mayor’s Ambitious Goal
Andy Burnham is part of the working group for Manchester United’s new stadium, which is pushing for the demolition of Old Trafford and the construction of a “Northern Wembley” with the support of government funding and private investment. The entire project is expected to cost around £2 billion.
While the target of completing the project by 2030 may be overly optimistic, Burnham believes that when the UK hosts the 2035 Women’s World Cup, Manchester United’s new stadium can host the final of the tournament. Burnham said:
“If we really accelerate the progress of this project, I think it’s very likely that we will host the 2035 Women’s World Cup. Imagine the scene of holding the final of this tournament at the new Old Trafford—this is a very worthwhile goal, isn’t it?”
