Liverpool Pays £125 Million to Sign Isak; Newcastle Will Actually Receive £130 Million

Liverpool has reached an agreement to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
Due to the solidarity payment mechanism for youth development, the value of this deal to Newcastle United stands at £130 million (USD 176 million), while Liverpool will incur a cost of £125 million.
Previously, Liverpool had made a £110 million offer for the 25-year-old player, but the bid was rejected by the northeast club. Newcastle had earlier indicated that they would be willing to sell Isak for £120 million.
Isak has publicly stated his desire to leave Newcastle United. He did not take part in pre-season training and has also been absent from the club’s first three Premier League matches of the current season.
Newcastle United’s long-standing stance was that the Swedish international was “not for sale”. However, in recent days, the club has been pushing forward with the deal, as they believe the transfer is now inevitable.
On Saturday, Newcastle completed a club-record €75 million transfer to sign Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart. Prior to this, the club’s two offers (valued at £50 million and £55 million respectively) for Wolverhampton Wanderers player Jörgen Strand Larsen were both turned down. Newcastle had also previously pursued Hugo Ekitike, who ultimately opted to join Liverpool.
