Crystal Palace's Guehi and Bayern's Upamecano are both on the Nerazzurri's transfer list. For Inter, the club plans to restructure its defensive line next summer, focusing on players with expiring contracts, age factors, and potential departures. Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi are 33 and 37 years old respectively, with their contracts expiring in June 2026, while Matteo Darmian will turn 36 in December, with his contract also ending next summer. Therefore, Inter still plans to sign a new center-back in advance in the next transfer window.

On Inter's target list, 25-year-old English center-back Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace is the most favored. The player, whose contract expires next June, has decided not to renew with his club, and is expected to trigger a bidding war next summer involving Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool, who came close to signing him this summer. The Nerazzurri want to sign him on a free transfer but have no intention of joining the bidding; the only possibility is to advance the deal in the winter window, possibly including Bisseck in the transaction—though this is only an initial idea.

Also in the final year of his contract is 27-year-old French center-back Dayot Upamecano of Bayern. The three-time Bundesliga champion and World Cup runner-up has seen his contract renewal negotiations with the club stall, creating an opportunity for Inter. Sports Director Piero Ausilio and CEO Giuseppe Marotta's list includes other names. In Serie A, they are monitoring Lazio's Mario Gila (contract expiring 2027), Udinese's Omar Colley (contract expiring 2027), and former Juventus youth product Tarik Muharemović, currently at Sassuolo; in the Belgian Pro League, they are keeping an eye on Joel Ordóñez, who just renewed with Club Brugge, with a transfer fee of around €30 million.
