Donnarumma: I Devoted Great Effort to PSG But Was Let Down; Lucky to Join Man City

Recently, in an interview with Camel Live, Manchester City goalkeeper and Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma talked about his feelings and views after joining the Citizens. In addition, he also revealed his experience of leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) this summer.
On Leaving PSG and Joining Man City
Donnarumma frankly said: "Leaving a club like PSG was not easy. After going through all this, I felt very sad. When I first arrived, I tried my best to adapt to a specific system, but that system completely disappeared in the last few months. It’s really a pity—we had just brought PSG an unprecedented Champions League trophy, and this pain is real. But I have to turn the page; my former teammates and fans at PSG will always be in my heart."
"I felt let down. I specially put in a lot of hard work to adapt to PSG, but the drastic changes in the last few months disappointed me. I will never be able to explain this transformation; I can only accept it. I regret how they handled things, but life always moves forward."
"I will always be grateful to PSG for everything they gave me. The time we achieved success together was extremely wonderful. I am also forever thankful to the fans—PSG gave me a second home, and it carries an important chapter in my life. I am happy with the achievements we made and will always remember the love from my teammates and fans."
On Haaland’s Role in the Transfer
Talking about his late deadline-day transfer to Man City, Donnarumma revealed that his teammate Erling Haaland played a key role. "He is an extraordinary person—calm and family-oriented. We hit it off immediately. We kept in touch even when we played for different teams, often exchanging messages after games."
"When I received the offer from Man City, he personally sent me a message to push the transfer through, and I am deeply grateful for that. It’s lucky to have such a good friend—fortunately, we are on the same team now, because being his opponent is really painful! He is simply an alien!"
"He is an amazing player, and having someone like him in our team is crucial. He is a fantastic player, one of the best in the world, and that’s incredible. It’s a pleasure to play alongside him. He is very calm and puts in a lot of effort for the team. And he’s also a great friend."
The Warmth in Man City’s Dressing Room
The Italian goalkeeper also thanked the entire Man City team for helping him adapt to the Premier League. In his first 12 games for Pep Guardiola’s side, he has kept 6 clean sheets. "To be honest, I’m a bit annoyed—I should have had more clean sheets," the Italian smiled. "I never thought I could settle in the Premier League so quickly, but my teammates deserve full credit. They gave me extreme warmth from the first day I arrived."
"Especially in my debut after only three days of training, my teammates helped me wholeheartedly. During the first training session, I already had a sense of belonging as if I had been playing here for two years. The rhythm of the Premier League is completely different; you need to adapt to high-intensity running immediately. The team’s support over these months has been crucial."
On His Views on Manager Pep Guardiola
"He has given me a lot of advice and talks to me often. He has helped me a lot. He is a very special coach, and it’s amazing to have Guardiola as my manager. It’s every player’s dream, and I am extremely happy."
"In addition, when I joined the club, everyone made me feel very welcome. That’s the most important thing. Coming here and facing very important games, like against Manchester United, and the first game—if you don’t have a good team that welcomes you warmly, it will be very difficult. So this is extremely important. Everyone talks to me. They tell me a lot of things I need to improve on, which is very valuable."
