Crystal Palace Finally Holds Onto Guehi, Who Will Not Join Liverpool This Summer

Although Liverpool reached an agreement with Guehi to bring the defender to the club on transfer deadline day, he will still remain at Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old England international completed at least part of his medical after the two clubs agreed a £35 million transfer fee.

The two parties also finalized personal terms for a five-year contract running until 2030.

Head Coach Oliver Glasner has been strongly opposed to selling Guehi this summer and insisted that the captain could not be allowed to leave unless a suitable replacement was found.

Before the transfer deadline at 7pm UK time on Monday, Crystal Palace had reached a transfer agreement with Toulouse’s young defender Jeidi Kwarteng, but the transfer of Igor Julio—who was also pursued by West Ham United—did not materialize.

Liverpool has offered a contract to give Guehi more time, but Guehi will stay at Selhurst Park for now, and his contract will expire at the end of the current season.

If his contract expires without renewal, he will be able to move to a club of his choice as a free agent, without Crystal Palace receiving a transfer f
