Vinícius has informed Real Madrid that he is unwilling to renew his contract as long as his relationship with head coach Xabi Alonso remains so tense.

According to three sources with direct knowledge of the meeting, this message was conveyed by Vinícius during a conversation with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez at the end of last month. Like all sources consulted for this article, they requested anonymity to protect relationships.

Vinícius’ contract expires at the end of June 2027. Renewal talks began in January but stalled after the two sides failed to reach an agreement.

Following Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona in El Clásico on October 26, Vinícius apologized to Florentino for his behavior during the match. After being substituted by Alonso in the 72nd minute, he reacted angrily, storming off the pitch and shouting: “It’s always me! I want to leave the team. It’s better if I go, I’m leaving.”

Vinícius’ future was also discussed during that meeting. He made it clear that due to his relationship with Alonso, he did not feel renewing his contract was the best option for him. His stance has not changed since then.

Sources close to the Brazilian player have repeatedly told Camel Live of his concerns about Alonso, who succeeded Carlo Ancelotti as head coach in May this year. Tensions have escalated over the first three months of the new season and have now become a daily topic of discussion inside and outside the club.

The roots of these tensions can be traced back to Real Madrid’s 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup semi-finals on July 9.

Alonso had originally planned to bench Vinícius for that match, but an injury to Arnold ultimately forced him to change his plans, allowing the Brazilian to start—though on the right wing, not his preferred left flank. Since then, in Real Madrid’s 17 games across all competitions so far this season, he has only completed 5 full matches and has come off the bench 4 times, including the 2-2 draw with Elche last Sunday.

Vinícius believes Alonso has treated him unfairly, and when he posted an apology on social media after his outburst following the Barcelona match, he did not mention the head coach by name, despite specifically referencing several people including Pérez.

Sources close to Vinícius say this was intentional. It caused widespread surprise within the club, including among coaching staff, as Alonso was present when the Brazilian apologized to the team in person at Real Madrid’s training ground.

Alonso has spoken about his relationship with Vinícius multiple times in press conferences this season. He has consistently emphasized that there are no personal issues between the two and that rotating the squad is important for the team. In recent weeks, Alonso has often expressed frustration with the ongoing drama surrounding the situation.
