Barnes on Potential Switch to Scotland: Never Say Never; Great to See Them Qualify

Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes talked about the possibility of playing for the Scotland national team.

When asked if he could switch allegiance from England to Scotland, Barnes said: “I haven’t really talked about or considered it recently. There have been rumors, and there were some scattered discussions a while ago, but it hasn’t been mentioned lately. It was great to see them win and qualify last night—it was an absolutely fantastic game, and I’m sure all Scots are happy.”

“Is it completely out of the question? No, of course not. Obviously, I’ve played for England, and I know eligibility issues still exist, so it’s hard to say what will happen now, but there have been no real conversations or developments so far.”

Barnes has made one appearance for England. On October 8, 2020, when he was still with Leicester City, he came on as a substitute for Jadon Sancho in the final 14 minutes of a friendly match against Wales.
