Messi is likely to participate in Barcelona’s upcoming presidential election and will no longer support Joan Laporta.

“I’ve learned from third parties that Messi and his family are extremely angry with Laporta. Extremely angry. The previous talk of resolving issues over a barbecue has proven to be nonsense: it’s simply impossible.”

He was referring to the failed attempt by the Barcelona president to reconcile with the Argentine star after Messi left Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain.

The former Barcelona vice-president confirmed a fact known to those close to the player and one the club has long tried to cover up.

Laporta himself admitted, “When we didn’t renew his contract, the relationship did suffer some damage,” but added, “After that, we more or less repaired it.” In an interview, Laporta insisted, “We are confident in giving him the honors he deserves.”

But the truth is that the relationship between the two has broken down. Messi has not forgotten how he was forced to leave Barcelona.

In fact, one of Laporta’s main promises during his 2021 election campaign was to renew Messi’s contract, and at the time, negotiations were progressing smoothly, pending only Messi’s signature.

However, Barcelona’s financial and economic difficulties led the club to backtrack, and Laporta’s U-turn was interpreted as betrayal by Messi and his family. On August 10,

Messi signed with Paris Saint-Germain, just days after his tearful farewell press conference, a scene still vivid in the minds of Barcelona fans.

Messi recently renewed his contract with Inter Miami until 2028, but he still cannot forget the painful experience of leaving Barcelona. His choice of venue for the signing ceremony with the North American club—the construction site of Miami Freedom Park—was surprising, and his words at the event were equally striking:

“It feels very special to play in such a spectacular stadium.”

According to sources close to the Argentine star, he is aware of his ability to make up for the loss caused by being forced to move to a new city where he didn’t speak the language. At the time, his family, especially his children, had fully adapted to life in Barcelona but had to leave.

These sources say Barcelona is sounding out Messi on whether he is willing to participate in the upcoming elections. Messi responded that he has not ruled out the possibility but made it clear that Laporta will not be the candidate he supports.

Furthermore, he has not refused to publicly state his position; if he finds a candidate capable of winning, he will not hesitate to make a decision. Messi will be a decisive factor, and he will wait until the final days of the election to act, strategically making his presence decisive.

However, he also insists that he will not easily ally with anyone. If he takes action, it will be to win the election, and he will consider it very carefully.
